Updated: Dec 3

August 2024

Metro Flood Defense (MFD) has partnered with the NY NJ Storm Surge Working Group (SSWG), a think tank made up of engineers, oceanographers, urban planners and other experts, to develop a comprehensive, regional plan for minimizing risk from sea level rise, storm surge and intense rainfall in the New York Metro Region.

This plan is a work in progress. And we need your help to make it better. We're looking for additional input from elected officials, community members. scientists, engineers, planners, and all other stakeholders in the NYC Metro Region and beyond. We're available to meet with any individuals or groups that have questions, comments or critiques. Please let us know what you think by emailing us at: team@metroflooddefense.org.

The August 2024 version of this report has been submitted to the US Army Corps of Engineers (ACE). In March 2023, MFD and SSWG also submitted a draft version of the report to the Army Corps of Engineers for consideration along with public comments in opposition to the Corps' "Tentatively Selected Plan" of Alternative 3B (TSP 3B) in the Harbor and Tributaries Study (HATS). MFD and SSWG will continue to work with the ACE to develop a plan that provides flood protection for all, not some.
